Multiple administrations (SMTP Id#: 56019)
Stewart:
The following are the data for Hallinckrodt Institute of Radiology for the
'1-year period from 1 July 1993 to 30 June 1994.
- 1. A total of 266 patients received 1-131 doses for which a written directive was required,-as follows:
39 Thyroid Cancer Rx (doses usually 100-200 mci) 140 Hyperthyroidism Rx (doses ranging from 5 to 30 mci; avg. about 10 mC1)
- 99 Whole-body imaging (dose 5 mC1)
These numbers add to more than 266, because 12 patients had more than one TYPE.
of procedure (see below).
2.
A total of 16. patients (6%) had more than one I-131 administration in the year, as follows:
11 thyroid cancer Rx + whole body imaging 1 thyroid cancer Rx + (whole body imaging x2) 3 whole body imaging x2 1 hyperthyroidism Rx x2 Hence, if the rule is tied to a procedure requiring a written directive and if (m) any record-keeping requirement is triggered only by the second administration, LJ -
the burden MIGHT not be unacceptably ~high. Note that I make this statement in a highly provisional fashion.
