Juna 26, 1985 Docket No. 50-344 Mr. Bart D. Withers Vice President - Nuclear Portland General Electric Company 121 S. W. Salmon Street Portland, Oregon 97204
Dear Mr. Withers:
SUBJECT:
GENERIC LETTER 83-28, ITEM 1.1 POST-TRIP REVIEW The staff is continuing its review and evaluation of PGE's responses to Generic Letter 83-28 with reg.ird to required actions based on generic implications of the SALEM ATWS events. is the staff's Safety Evaluation (SE)oftheappropriateportionsofyourNovember4,1983 submittal concerning Item 1.1 of Generic Letter 83-28, Post-Trip Review.
During our review, the staff found that your post-trip review program did not provide for an independent assessment of the event following a trip.
It is the staff's position that, if any of the restart criteria as presented in Section !!.A of the enclosed SE are not met, an independent assessment of the event should be performed.
Based on our review, we concluded that, subject to successful resolution of the above cited deficiency, your Post-Trip Review Program and Procedures i
for Trojan Nuclear Plant are acceptable. The staff requests that you provide the additional information necessary to resolve this matter within 30 days of receipt of this letter or provide a date that you can meet within 15 days of your receipt of this letter.
We are available to meet with your staff, if needed, to discuss our concern.
Should you have any questions or wish to arrange such a meeting, please contact the Project Manager, Lisamarie Lazo, at 301 492-7791.
The information requested in this letter affects fewer than 10 respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under P. L.96-511.
