SUBJECT:

CONFIRMATION OF ACTION LETTER .

This is to confirm our conversation of this date relative to an internal investigation which had originally been initiated during the spring of 1983.

Based on our conversation, it is my understanding that Louisiana Power &

Light (LP&L) will take the following actions:

1. The investigation will be resumed and all appropriate investigative leads will be pursued. (It is our understanding that this was begun on December 8, 1984.) Region IV will be kept informed of the progress of this investigation.
2. The investigation will be concluded to the satisfaction of Region IV prior to Unit 3 of the Waterford Steam Electric Station (WSES) facility achieving intital criticality.
3. Documents related to the subject investigation will be retained and made available for NRC review.

If your understanding of the above is different from the above, please notify me imediately.
