-Attsched'are readings from.the Palisades SIRW Tank Support Surveillance to
'date, along with a preliminary evaluation of the measurements (CP Co internal memo).
In order to further investigate this condition, the number of surveillances is being increased. ~You vill be notified of the schedule for the next measure-
- ments; however, due to the current increased nurber of surveillances, lead time for notification will be reduced'due to uncertainty of the plant' schedule at this-time.

. Subject PALISADES SIRW TANK SUPPORT STRUCTURE Internal Correspondence CC ERTiffany, Palisades WLRoberts, P-26-405 PJK 04-84 ERCooper, P-24-306 KKChao, P-24-304 CHGilmor, Palisades DCC 950/00211/01400 The third of a series of quarterly inspections of the Palisades SIRW tank support was performed on 1/31/84. The inspection includes measurement of width of selected concrete beam cracks and elevation measurements of the support structure.
The inspection was conducted with the. tank filled to 94% of capacity which may be cocpared with the inspection on 8/8/83 with the tank 98% full.
The compar-ison indicates that the support structure has settled.002 ft (1/40") at the location of peak shear stresses which occur at the beam openings and that the support structure has generally settled up to an approximate maximum of 1/8" at its center. This amount of settlement is within established tolerances presented to Consumers Nuclear Safety Board.

~
r structure may be in an inelastic condition." The' basis for this-statement is
.the small amount of. upward displacementJuith"the SIRW tank unloaded and the L
-apparent rincrease in downward deflection af ter the^ tank was r'eloade'd. ;
Therefore, it is reco = ended that another inspection be made with the tank unloaded followed by an inspection made with the tank loaded to establish a trend of structural behavior.
The reloading of the tank may be in steps,
' depending on the outcome of the readings with the tank unloaded.
I am planning on proceeding with this work effort during this outage and will take readings approximately one week after the SIRW tank is unloaded for refueling.
