By the enclosed letter dated February 2,1979. Metropolitan Edison Cowany informed us that they would not be able to complete fire P
protection modification No. 3.1.14 (described in the TMI-1 Fire j
Protection SER) by the scheduled date of "end of refueling 1979" (approximately March 14,1979). They further requested that the cogletion date be

1 Since the cogletion dates for all fire protection modtfications is specified in the facility Itcense, a formal amendment of the license is required to change any of those dates.
l Accordingly, you are requested to review the acceptability of the i
proposed delay in iglementation of this podification. You are L
also requested to prepara a written safety evaluation setting forth your conclusions on this matter and the bases for your conclusions.
If additional information is needed please advise the TMI-1 ORPM.

Because this matter must be resolved before THI-1 can operate in Cycle 5 (scheduled to start about March 14,1979) and because time 8
.is needed for preparation of an amendment. if acceptable, and legal review, it is requested that the written Safety Evaluation be i
provided to the TNI-1 ORPM by February 26, 1979.
Effort on this task should be charged to TACS No.11238.
