SUBJECT:

Inspection of shock suppressors at Quad-Cities Nuclear Power Station Unit 1, DKT 50-254, DPR-29

Dear fir. O' Leary:

The purpose of this letter is to report the results of the hydraulic shock supprcssor inspcetions that were preformed during the month of April 1974 on Quad-Citics Unit 1.

Four Parker-Hannafin, twenty-nine Bergen-Patterson and fourteen-Grinnell shock suppressors were inspected.

The inspection revealed that all the Parker-Hannafin shock suppressors were cperable and their integrity intact. Twenty-cight of the Bergen-Patterson shock suppressors were rebuilt and installed during the present refueline outace. The "O", ring seals were replaccd with cthylenc-propylene scals.

Inspection of these shock suppressors revealed that'they were all operable and sufficient oil levels were observcd. Bergen-Patterson SN F-51035 will be installed and inspected as soon as rcplacccent parts arrive.

The Grinnell shock suppressors were all found to be operable. However, two of these had minor oil leakage around fittings.

These fittings will be tightened to correct this minor leakage.

Grinnell snubber serial numbered 4695 on Unit 2 was also inspected at this time. This shock suppressor was not found to be leaking, and the oil reservoir was full. 1:enthly checks will continue to be made on this suppressor until confidence in its integrity can be obtaincd.

Very truly yours, COLLET.filiLi i EDIS0" CORPANY EUCLMR POUER STATICU
