%s test subjected the valve motor operator to a transient of 300*F and 84.7 psia for 32 minutes, followed by a cooldown to 120'F in 3.2 hours2.314815e-5 days
5.555556e-4 hours
3.306878e-6 weeks
7.61e-7 months
.
%e valve motor operator was tien subjected to a second transient of 300*F and 44.7 psia, which was s:aintained for 92 hours0.00106 days
0.0256 hours
1.521164e-4 weeks
3.5006e-5 months
, then a cooldown to 200*F and 24.7 psia, which was maintained for 24 days. %e temperature and i
pressure inside containment peak at 283*F and 52.0 psia in 17 and 50 seconds, respectively. At I hour the conditions are i
214.7'F and 32.2 psia; at 3 hours3.472222e-5 days
8.333333e-4 hours
4.960317e-6 weeks
1.1415e-6 months
the conditions are 204*F and 29.46 pe;ia; at 5 hours5.787037e-5 days
0.00139 hours
8.267196e-6 weeks
1.9025e-6 months
the conditions are 193.2*F and 27.08 paia; and at 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
the conditions are 143*F and 18.03 psia.
%e coriditions return to ambient in 7 days.
Based on this information, it can be concluded that the laboratory test subjected the valve motor operator to an overall more severe environment than that which would result from a postulated IDCA.
Since the valve motor operator remained operable throughout the test and functional af ter the test, it can be concluded that the valve motor operator will remain f unctional during and af ter exposure to the accident environment which would result f rom the postulated LOCA.
( Ref erence G, II, and X).
. CAL-40 qualifies components tested in a high pil boric acid spray to a pil value of 5.

De temperature in Room 4
314 peaks at 221*F in 1 55 seconds. The pressure in Room 314 peaks at 19.76 psia in.086 seconds. The conditions in Room 314 return to ambient af ter 8 minutes.
Based on this information, it can be concluded that the laboratory test subjected the valve motor operator to an overall 4
more severe environment than that which would result f rom a postulated HEIE.
Since the valve motor operator remained f
operable throughout the test and functional af ter the test, it can be concluded that the valve motor operator will remain functional during and af ter exposure to the accident environment which would result f rom the postulated HELB.

2.
Msterials evaluation conducted. Materials sensitive to radiation and/or thermal aging summarized on attached evaluation.
3.
This component is a two position hydramotor actuator controlling the containment atmosphere radiation monitor RE5030 inlet valve. The actuator is energized by means of local control switch NHS50300 and local test pushbutton switch NV50300. This actuator is a two position (full open, full closed) component with positive spring return and is designed so that actuator failure results in closure of the valve. Actuator control is by means of an internal limit switch. The actuator is exempt from qualification because it does not perform a safety-related function in the harsh environment resulting from a high energy line break. Loss of power will cause the actuator / valve to return to its closed position. The containment atmosphere radiation monitoring system is used to detect radiation in the containment atmosphere. This system would not be required to mitigate a high energy line break in Room 314. Since this system would not be required to mitigate a high energy line break, failure / closure of the actuator / valve would not degrade any other safety-related functions or mislead the operator. Containment radiation monitor RE50290 located in Room 314 (not exposed to a harsh environment due to HELB in Room 303) would also be available for cor.tainment atmosphere radiation monitoring.

This component is a pressure switen that provides overpressurization protection for the containment post-accident radiation monitor. The harsh environment seen by this component is due to a main feedline break.
This coas>onent monitors containment pressure but is located outside containment.
A sensing line allows containment atmospheric pressure to be measured by a cacled sensing element within the switch.
This sensing element actuates the switch mechanism. None of the internals of this device will be exposed to the LOCA environment.
The sensing line is normally filled with air and, during a LOCA, the
)
air in the sensing line will be compressed by the inside containment steam-air pressure mixture rise but there will be no flow in the sensing line and no steam-air-chemical spray mixture will enter the device.
The switch is exempt f rom qualification in the harsh steam environment because the containment post-accident radiation monitor is only needed during loss of coolant accidents.

1.
One-year operating time is used as a conservative maximum specification.
2.
This equipment is considered exempt from qualification for the following reasons:
The gas analyzer is only used to monitor hydrogen gas in the containment building subsequent to a LOCA and is therefore a.
I not required to operate after an HELB.
Therefore, this device is not required to be qualified for main feedline break condition.
b.
Subsequent to a LOCA, this device will be exposed to a total integrated dose of only 627 rada.
literature on the effects of radiation on non-metallic materials (WCAP-8587, Appendix C) demonstrates that materialsAnalysis of existin typical to power plant equipment construction would not be significantly affected by radiation doses less than 104 rads.
Therefore, the post-LOCA environment t.his equipment could be exposed to is considered mild.
10CFR50.49 does not require qualification of mild environment equipment.

1.
On?-year operating time is used as a conservative maximum specification.
2.
This equipment is considered exempt from qualification for the following reasons:
c.
The gas analyzer is only used to monitor hydrogen gas in the containment building subsequent to a LOCA and is therefore not required to operate after an HELB.
Therefore, this device is not required to be qualified for main feedline break condition.
b.
Subsequent to a LOCA, this device will be exposed to a total integrated dose of only 627 rads.
Analysis of existing literature on the ef fects of radiation on non-metallic materials (WCAP-8587, Appendix C) demonstrates that materials 4
typical to power plant equipment construction would not be significantly affected by radiation doses less than 10 rads. Therefore, the post-LOCA environment this equipment could be exposed to is considered mild. 10CFR50.49 does not require qualification of mild environment equipment.
