PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION y

Unit No._,2 Startup Overview b

F General Project b

Through the current reporting period (end of May, '83), the overall Unit No. 2 Startup Program is approximately 10 weeks late to a September 28, l

1983 Primary and Secondary Hydro.

Critical activities delaying Primary i

Hydro continue to be construction transfer of required subsystems;

[

electrical energizations of the class IE distribution systems; prerequi-

{

site testing of the NSSS systems; and preoperational testing of the NSSS sistems.

Subsequent milestones are affected by the current delay of the Hydro Milestone, hosever prerequisite testing for subsequent milestones is on schedule.

The proj ec t is still maintaining a June 1,

1984 Fuel Load date.

Dis c iplin_e s_

Electrical Major accomplishments through June 19, 1983 include the

(

energization of non-class distribution systems to support all Startup requirements and the start of associated preoperational testing.

Warranty testing and equipment failure continue to delay energizations of the class distribution systems.

j i

BOP - Prerequisite testing continues overall on schedule.

While in a holding position for major subsystems to transfer and energizations, BOP proceeded testing miscellaneous subsystems at an accelerated pace substantially completing I Instrument and Service Air, Fire Protection, Domestic Water and starting on Equipment Drains and Waste Subsystems.

Testing on major subsystems (i.e.,

Plant Water, Cire Water, Lube Oil, Condensate) is anticipated to be well underway during the current month to support Secondary Hydro and Vacuum.

HVAC - Through the use of temporary power as available and component transfers, HVAC has been able to maintain good progress.

Major accomplishments include completion of the Chilled Water Flush (WC) the start of the Essential Chilled Water Flushes (EC) and continuing temporary ventilation to support construction.

NSSS - Late transfer of critical subsystems and the availability of electrical distribution have restrained the s ta rt of testing on NSSS i

subsystems.

However, starts on the CVCS and Safety injection flushes have begun.

Both the Fuel Pool Cooling (PC) and the Spray Pond (SP) subsystems are on schedule.

I & C - Testing continues substantially on schedule both from a prerequisite standpoint and preoperational, i
