To assure 'he control rods are capable of performing their function property, the following inspections and tests ' 5 be performed on a blennial schedule. This praxedure will satisfy Tech % : Specification 4.2.c. Bocause of the time required to complete all tests, the proceoute may be extended over several days.
Procedure:
1.
Check out the reactor using TRIGA Preliminary Chock Sheet (Form NEL 001 B.1).
2.
Withdraw the safety rod to its fuity cocked position.
3.
A licensod reactor operator will remain at the console du ing all fuel movement and rod removal involving positka reactivity insertions.
4.
Remove fuel elements from selected rings which have total reactivh v/ orth 3
equal to or greater than the total reactkity worth of all control rods combined.
List the order of removal and storage position. Record movement completion times in the Operations Log book.

Insert cadmium plug into centralirradiator.

Insert safety rod.

Remove regulating rod and inspect for deterioration and oporability. (Since rod may exhbit high radiation levels this inspection may be performed under water by leaving the rods submerged for radiation protection.)

Replaco regulating rod.
