This Command holds License No. SNM-ll54 for the possession and use of special nuclear materials. For the calibration of alpha counting systems and monitoring instruments used in contamination control measures under this license, it is necessary to use alpha counting standards.

It is requested, therefore, that the license be amended to permit the possession and use of one microcurie of plutonium-239 as plated alpha sources.

The sources will be about twelve in number, ranging from 1X10-4 to 0.1 microucurie in level of activity. Each source will be wipe tested on a quarterly basis.
