(a) NR? ltr Docket No. 70-1216 of 19 June 1978 1.

In accordance with Condition 12C of subject matter the following report of a positive leak test result is submitted. On 23 March 1978 immersion leak test of two (2) clad Pu-238 cermets revealed the pres-ence of 1 microcurie and 0.1 microcurie removable contamination. The cermets have been withdrawn from service and have been sent to the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, Los Alamos, New Mexico.

2.

The test report was not submitted within the five (5) day period, as pointed out by reference (a), because of uncertainty at the time that the cermets were considered encapsulated sources. Subsequently the NRC has advised that the cermets should be considered to be en-capsulated sources.
