Preliminary Report Seismic Reverification Program, dated 3
November 12th, 1981.
4 MR. CRANE:
I have no-independent recollection 5
of actually signing this letter.
6 I sign a number of letters of transmittal to 7
the commission as a part of my normal duties.
8 I note that the letter is dated November 18th, 9
and I know that on that date I was travelling back to 10 Washington, D.C.
to attend a congressional hearing and 11 an oral argument so I can only asstme that I or presume 12 that I did sign the letter, but I have, as I said, no 13 independent recollection, k,,,
1-4 MR. FAULKENBERRY:
Mr. Crane, if you were not 15 here on the-18th, and could not have signed it on the 18th, 16 if you had signed it, would you give us an indication of I
17 the only available dates that you were here and which-18 dates you possibly could have signed it?

Well, I was here on-November 17th ii 20 and I could-have signed the letter then and I was not in s

21 the office until the 23rd but if I was presented with the l'
22 letter on the 23rd for signature, I would have normally 23 assuming I noticed it, I would-have had them change the 24 date.

After the interview last 2
week, I went back to the people.who handled the mailing 3
and I said do you happen to have a copy of the letter 4
of transmittal as it was manually signed and indeed they 5
did.
6 And,-they gave me a copy which I furnished to 7
you people and the letter of transmittal was signed 8
by my secretary on my behalf and according to the people 9
o n the 14th floor, that letter to Mr. Engelken was actually 10 m ailed on the 18th.
11 The rest of the service list was not served 12 until'-- they can't remember whether it was Friday or 13 the following Monday.
