EDWIN I. HATCH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 Ato 2 PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS FOR ETEOROLOGICAL MEASUREMENTS AND ASSESSMENT CAPABILITIES OF RADIOLOGICAL RELEASES Gentlemen:
As directed on page 2-8 of Appendix 2 to NUREG 0654 Rev.1, this letter provides information concerning the proposed upgrades in the meteorological measurements program, the Class A calculational model, and the remote interrogation meteorological capabilities for Plant Hatch.
The currently installed meteorological measurement system (a 150 ft.
instrument tower) is to become the backup system.
The primary system will consist of a 100 meter tower with instrumentation that satisfies the requirements of proposed Revision 1 to Regulatory Guide 1.23.
Installation is expected to be complete by July 1,1982; full operation is targeted for October 1, 1982; these dates are tentative and are contingent upon hardware delivery.
The irrprovements sought in the Class A effluent dispersion model are in the area of computational techniques, as well as parameter refinements.
Installation of the software is targeted for July 1982; full operation is I
targeted for October 1,1982.
Additional guidance is expected from the NRC which may alter these dates.
The capability for remote interrogation of the atmospheric measurements, effluent transport and diffusion estimates will be provided by June 30, 1983.
Readouts will be available to the control room, technical support center and emergency operations facility..
Yours truly, f> l $<
of G. F. Head
