Dear Senatur D'Amato:
3ein6 a resident of Mohe6an Lake, ITY, I have a concern for"the Con Edison nuclear power plant.
This power plant is only about ten uiles away fr.m my home.-
-I have paid high electrical bills.for a plant that has q
not ' produced any significant amount of energy since it has opened.
Don't set se wrong, I would not mind having
-this plant near my house.if it could_ provide cheap.,
efficient, safe enercy.
In the past few years, it seems as though every week I read somethin5 about the plant breakin6 down.
'l!1th the installation of emergency siren: around the area, you would think this would aid towards a safer evacuation.
Eut thece sirens'didn't work-when-tested-and.just cost us more money.- If by chance, any radioactive steam or material did leak out into the surroundin6 area,.this would-pose for'a lot of danger.
The.evccuation of the nearby area would be almost impossible considering the large amount of people in the area.
Also, why would anybody build a nuclear power-plant on a fault 7 t
As a State Senator, I think you should to everything in
- your power to correct this situation.
Either Ect this power plant in excellent condition or have it shut corn L
permanently.
