IN RESPONSE REFER Washington, Dt 20036 TO F0IA-82-345
Dear Mr. Philips:
This is in response to your letter dated July 29, 1982 in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, all documents prepared by the NRC, its staff and consultants regarding 10 CFR Part 50, i
Appendix B, Quality Assurance audits of testing facilities conducted within the past 10 years by the NRC staff.
Mr. James Taylor, Director, Division of Reactor Programs, Office of I
Inspection and Enforcement, informed this of;1ce that the NRC does not conduct the audits required under 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix B, and that the NRC has not conducted inspections of test organizations specifically for the purpose of verifying conformance to this audit requirement.
Therefore, NRC has no records that are directly subject to your request.
However, NRC has obtained information concerning the performance of test organizations through observations of equipment qualification testing activities. Such observations have been noted in some inspection reports.
According to Mr. Taylor, he gave to you several such reports (which were not identified for this office) with regard to a meeting on test facility accreditation on July 23, 1982, which you attended at his invitation.
At this time, Mr. Taylor has identified additional reports and other related records (which are listed on the enclosed Appendix) that we are making available at the NRC Public Document Room (PDR) for your inspection and copying. You may obtain access to these records by either presenting a copy of this letter to one of the PDR librarians or requesting folder j
F01A-82-345 filed under your name.
l We appreciate your cooperation in agreeing to an extension of time for our response to your request.
Sincerely,
- J/bb7
