In response to your letter of February 10, 1983, I am pro-viding the attached information on costs incurred for backfitting and upgrading of the facilities at GPU's Oyster Creek and Three Mile Island Unit 1 nuclear stations.
We have attempted to provide the data consistent with the same general format of the attachments to your letter, including the categorization of modifications as "NRC-required", "TMI lessons learned", or " utility-initiated".
Application of that terminology undoubtedly results in different judgments by different organizations, and we suggest that the distribution among the categories and the dollar totals in a particular category should be considered in the light of that uncertainty.
In our own case, absent the examples provided by the attachments to your letter, we probably would have categorized some of the modifications differently.
