UNIMPLEMENTED UNRESOLVED SAFETY ISSUES AT FERMI - 2 (TAC NO. 74538)

On October 19, 1989, the staff issued Generic Letter (GL) 89-21 which requested information concerning the status of implementation of unresolved safety issues (USIs) at your facility.

Based on your response to this GL, dated November 20, 1989 (NRC-89-0239), our review of Agency records and discussions between your i

staff and the NRC Project Managers, the NRC staff has compiled the enclosed list representing our assessment of USI implementation.

These results were presented to the Commission at a meeting on February 14, 1990.

Enclosure'l to this letter presents the staff understanding of the current status of all unimplemented USIs for fermi-2.

The staff encourages your effort to complete the unimplemented USIs.

't ENCLOSURE List of Incomplete USIs for Fermi-2 USI # & Title Discussion A-9 Fermi-2 in compliance with 10 CFR 50.62 with n

ATWS exception of diversity.

NRR technical staff is handling diversity for BWRs on a generic basis A-44 Fermi-2 equipment modifications with minor Station Blackout procedure changes to be completed within one year or by the next refueling outage, whichever is later.

The SER is scheduled to be issued around September 30, 1990.

A-47 Fermi-2 response to GL 89-19 is due in March, 1990.

Safety Implications of Modifications, if necessary will be discussed in Control Systems the response.
