blSTER CREEK NUCLEAR GENEPATING STATION Forked River, New Jersey 08731 Licensee Event Report Report 2>1e Occurrence No. 50-219/81-43/01P Report Date August 31, 1981 Occurrence Date August 28, 1981 Identification of Occurrence The Stack Gas was not continuously monitored as required by Technical Specifica-

' ions 3.6.A.3 due to air inleakage at inlet of the stack gas saple pmp.

This event is considered to be a reportable occurren as defined in the Technical Specifications, paragraph 6. 9.2.A(2).

Conditions Prior to Occurrence Le plant was in refuel node with reactor temperature below 212 F and vented.

Description of Occurrence on Saturday, August 29, 1981, at approximately 1500 hours0.0174 days
0.417 hours
0.00248 weeks
5.7075e-4 months
the stack gas low flow alann was initiated. A check of the systen indicated inleakage at punp suction resulting in a high flow signal at the punp discharge, therefore, throttling the sample flow control valve to closed position. This control valve closure prevented a representative gas sample being collected from the stack.

Apparent Cause of Occurrence Excess air inleakage at a moisture separator attachment on the ptmp suction.

Analysis of Occurrence A review of Stack Gas Radiation Manitor Recorder showed the levels in "A" Channel at 100 cps and "B" Channel at 70 cps before and after the event. The reactor was shutdown with no work being performed on the reactor, therefoie, the safety significance is considered minimal.

Corrective Action

The operntion transferred to the "B" Stack Gan sanple punp and adjustal flow control to a nonnal 2.5 CFM. Additional corrective action will be forthcmting in the ten day reprt.
