Narrative

Report for LER 50-321/1981-077 While the unit was in steady state operation at 1442 MWt, it was discovered that the Unit 1 Radwaste loading dock was cgntaminatgd.smearab e.

Contamination levels ranged from 500-4300 dpm/100 cm There were no effects upon public health and safety due to this event.

This is a nonrepetitive event.

The cause of this event was due to an inadequate seal around the shield doors to the conveyor aisles.

When the radwaste drums were washed down prior to shipment some of the wash water containing resin seeped out fr3m underneath the doors onto the loading dock.

An MR was written to replace or repair the seals.

The dock was decontaminated.

There were no releases outside the protected area due to this event.

The seals on the Unit 2 conveyor aisles shield doors were also inspected and found to be in good condition.
