Narrative

Report for LER 50-321/1981-074.

With the unit in steady state operation at 2328 MWt, the Main Stack Off-gas Flow Recorder,1D11-R625, was found inoperative. Environmental Tech Specs Section 2.1.4.b requires continuous monitoring of Stack Gas Flow.

Plant operation was placed in a 7 day LC0 as a result of this event. The health and safety of the public was not affected.

This is a repetitive event as last reported on Reportable Occurrence Report No. 50-321/1979-084.

The cause of this event has been attributed to component failure. The failure was due to several transistor failures in each flow measuring unit. The components were replaced, the flow units recalibrated and returned to service.

The circumstance leading to this event was a severe lightning storm.

It is believed that lightning struck the stack and damaged the components.

A generic review of this event revealed no inherer.t problems.
