Narrative

Report for LER 50-321/1981-064 I

On 7-1-81, with the unit in steady state power operation at 2354 MWt and with HNP-1-3304, HPCI Steam Line Pressure Instrument FTEC, in progress, HPCI steam line pressure switch-es 1E41-N001B6D actuated at 101 and 106 psig, respectively.

Item 10 of table 3.2-2 of Tech Specs requires that these switches actuate at greater than or equal to 100 + 7.3 psig static head (i.e. greater than or equal to 107.3 psig).

This is a repetitive event as last reported in LER 50-321/1981-001.

Plant operation was not affected.

There were no effects on public health or safety.

The cause of the event was switch setpoint drift.

The switch-es were recalibrated immediately per HNP-1-5279, Barksdale Pressure Switch Calibration) and returned to service.

The same type switch is used in the same application on Hatch Unit 2; however, they were successfully tested per HNP-2-3304 on 7-1-81.

The unit is now in full compliance with the requirement of item 10 of Tech Specs table 3.2-2, and neither further action nor further reporting is required.
