Narrative

Report for LER 50-321/1981-053.

While the plant was in start-up and hot standby,1T47-R612, Drywell and Torus Teinperature Recorder, was found to be marking erratically.

Tech Specs Table 3.2-11, Item 5, requires two operable channels.

Redundant recorder, IT47-R611, was operable.

Plant operation was placed in a 30 day LC0 as a result of this event.

The health and safety of the public was not affected.

This event was repetitive as last reported on Reportable Occurrence Report No. 50-321/1981-005.

The cause of this event has been attributed to component failure.

The i l Te$ilure was due to balancing motor failure.

The component was replaced and retu,rned to service.

The unit is now in full compi Lance.

A generic review rcvealed no inherent prcblems. This particular failure mode has not been. evident before.

This type of Taylor recorder is not used on Hatch, Unit II.
