Narrative

Report for LER 50-321/1981-046 On June 3',19'81, while the plant was in cold shutdown and surveillance testing-was in progress.on the RPS Reactor Uater Level Switches,1021-N017C was found to actuate at 61" H O input.

Tech' Spec Table 3.1-1, Item 6, requires actuation at 2

559.95" H O input equivalent-to 212.5" RPV water level.

Redundant switches 2

IB21-N017A, B, D were all operable.

Plant operation was not affected.

The health and safety of the public was not affected.,

The cause of this event has been attributed to switch setpoint drift.

The

~Barton level indicating switch was recalibrated and returned to service.

The same type Barton switch is used for this service on Unit II.

A generic review revealed no inherent problems. These switches are tested monthly and the last failure an Unit I was approximately three years ago.

The unit is now in full compliance with the requirements and no further reporting is required.
