Narrative

Report for LER 50-321/1981-034 On 4-22-81, with Unit 1 shutdown for a refueling / torus modif-ication outage the AE conducted a surveillance walkdown' of pipe supports per IEB 79-14.

On _'4 - 2 3-81, the site was notif-ied by the AE that support G31-RWCUll-58 failed functionality criteria for IEB 79-14.

This is - the support a repetitive occurrence - see LER 50-321/1981-029.

There were no effects on public health or safety.

No system operability was affect-ed.

The spring in support G31-RWCUll-58 was undersized due to design error.

The spring will bottom out under thermal plus scismic loading.

Spring and can will be replaced to allow proper pipe movement.

This will be done prior. to Unit l's startup following the outage such that the requirements of Tech Specs 6.9.1.8.i are satisfied.
