b' Licensee:

Georgia Power Company Facility:

Edwin I. Hatch Docket No.:

50-321 NARRA'PIVE REPORT FOR LER 50-321/1981-043 While Unit I was in cold shutdown for a refueling outage on a routine survey of the h..'; machine shop, it was discovered that e drum of used CRD filters was reading about 4.5 R/hr at 18 inches.

This violated the intent of 10CFR20.203.c(4) in that direct surveillance to prevent unauthorized entry into a high radiation area was not performed.

There were no overexposures due to this event.

There was no effset on the public health and safety.

c The cause for the uncontrolled high radiation area was that the shielding for.the drum had been disturbed thus allowing the radiation field outside the shield wall to exceed 100 mr/hr.

The drum was moved to a shielded and controlled area in the radwaste building.
