Dear Mr. Stolz:

Florida Power Corporation hereby provides the following response to your ,

letter of February 23, 1981, concerning future surveillance of fuel assembly holddown springs.  ;

During the next Crystal River Unit 3 refueling outage (currently sched-uled to begin September 19, 1981), a visual examination will be per-fonned .for all fuel assemblies which have completed a full cycle of in-reacto r service and have not been inspected for potential spring fa il ures. This examination will be perfonned using remote video equipm-ent. Control components will be removed from fuel assemblies prior to examination to avoid obstructing the vicu. Any spring failures found at that time will be reported to flRC.
