LER No.: 50-321/1981-002 O' Licensee: Georgia Power Company Facility Name: Edwin I. Hatch Docket No.: 50-321 Narrative Report for LER 50-321/1981-002 With the reactor at 402 fiue, a leak'of more than five (5) gallons per minute, (gpm), developed in the drywell . Per Tech Specs 3.6.G.1, the reactor was brought to cold shutdown within 36 hours4.166667e-4 days
0.01 hours
5.952381e-5 weeks
1.3698e-5 months
.

The cause of the event was a mechanical seal leaking water from the "A" reactor recirc pump, 1831-C001A. The seal was replaced, functionally tested and returned to service. 3 A generic study revealed no inherent problems with recirc pump seals on Unit I and Unit II. This is a non-repetitive event. Safe plant operation was not affected nor was there any effect on the health and safety of the public due to this event.
