- ee' FLASH NOTE i
Docket No. 50-367 TO:
S. A. Varga, Chief, LWR Branch No. 4, DPM l
FROM:
M. D. Lynch, Proj ect Manager, LWR Branch 4, DPM l
SUBJECT:
SUBMITTAL OF DETAILED PROPOSAL BY N1PSCO FOR S110RTER BAILLY FOUNDATION PILES On December 7,1977, NIPSCO stated that it was withdrawing its proposal for the placement of the safety-related Bailly foundation piles.
- Instead, it was proposed that these piles be conventionally placed (i.e., dry, hand-driven) and would be founded in the lacustrine deposits (about 50 feet long) as opposed to their original proppsal to found the piles either on.the bedrock or on the glacial till (abo'ut 150 feet long). N1PSCO estimated that this proposal would be submitted during the first week of Janu'ary 1978.
I was informed by John Dunn of NIPSCO on January 3,1978, that the j
revised pile design criteria and its justification will not be_sub-mitted until about mid-February 1978. The delay appears to be due to l
multiple causes (e.g., bad weather at the site, delays in laboratory testing, delays in the analysis of differential settlements, etc.).
