SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Docket No.
50-266 Unit Name Point Beach Unit 1 Date July 8, 1980 Completed By C. W.
Fay Telephone 414/277-2811 Unit 1 operated at 375 MWe net throughout the period with no load reductions.
The unit generated its 32 billionth kilowatt hour at 0520 hours0.00602 days
0.144 hours
8.597884e-4 weeks
1.9786e-4 months
on July 1.
At 1141 hours0.0132 days
0.317 hours
0.00189 weeks
4.341505e-4 months
, June 11, the unit tripped from a 390 MWe gross power level.
The trip was due to a communications mixup result ng in the removal of a vital bus supply inverter from service.
The trip of the unit was report 3d on the red phone at 1209 hours0.014 days
0.336 hours
0.002 weeks
4.600245e-4 months
on June 11.
A 24-hour notification,
" Loss of Containment Pressure Channel Redundancy" (Licensee Event Report No. 80-00 7/OlT-0), was issued on June 12.
The annual inspection of the 3" diesel was performed during the period and was returned to service at 1200 hours0.0139 days
0.333 hours
0.00198 weeks
4.566e-4 months
on June 20.
Contractor personnel arrived on site during the period to start work on IE Sulletin 80-11, masonry wall design.
An emeroency evacuation drill was conducted on June 26 between 0948 hours0.011 days
0.263 hours
0.00157 weeks
3.60714e-4 months
and 1013 hours0.0117 days
0.281 hours
0.00167 weeks
3.854465e-4 months
.
The results of the drill were generally good with some minor items to be critiqued by the plant staff.
No other major safety-related maintenance was performed during the period.

NARRATIVE
SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Docket No.
50-301 Unit Name Point Beach Unit 2 Date July 8, 1980 Completed By C. W.
Fay Telephone 414/277-2811 Unit 2 operated at 495 MWe net throughout tne period with few load reductions of a generally short duration per Power Supply.
The load was reduced to 340 MWe for four and one-half hours on June 8 for turbine stop valve testing.
A 24-hour notification " Cross-Connection of Engineered Safety Feature Buses" (Licensee Event Report No. 80-005/0lT-0),
was issued on June 10.
During a training walk-down of the safeguards electrical system, an improper electrical lineup was detected.
The A05 safeguards bus was supplied by the A06 safe-guards bus via the bus tie breaker in lieu of supplying A05 independently by A03.
In the event of a total loss of AC power, a failure of this tie breaker to open on automatic signal could jeopardize emergency power.
A 24-hour written notification, " Loss of Containment Spray During Testing" (Licensee Event Report No. 80-006/OlT-0),
was issued en June 18.
On June 17, a routine safeguards logic test was conducted with the 3D diesel out-of-service for annual maintenance.
Conducting this test with the 3D diesel out-of-service could have caused a total loss of automatic containment spray capability during a loss of AC follcwed by a LOCA.
A 24-hour written notification, " Loss of Residual Heat Removal (RHR) Redundancy During Testing" (Licensee Event Report No. 80-006/OlT-0), was issued on June 19.
At 0200 hours0.00231 days
0.0556 hours
3.306878e-4 weeks
7.61e-5 months
on June 19, a routine valve' operability test required by ASME Code Section XI, was conducted with the 3D.iesel out-of-service for annual maintenance.
Conducting this test rendered the "B"
residual heat removal pump inoperable for about 90 seconds while the pump suction valve was being cycled.
The "A" residual heat removal pump was already inoperable in the event of a loss of AC since its. associated emeryency diesel generator was out-of-service.
Load was reduced to 275 MWe for 19 hours2.199074e-4 days
0.00528 hours
3.141534e-5 weeks
7.2295e-6 months
en June 22 and for seven hours on June 23 for condenser tube leak testing.
An old condenser tube leak in the No. 4 waterbox and a condenser 4
air inleakage path were identified and repaired.
An additional load reduction on July 1 was to fac.litate additional condenser tube leak checking and to repair a seal water injection line on the "B" main feed pump.
One leaking condenser tube was plugged.
, Work continues on the auxiliary feedwater line to steam generator flow indication modification.
The heater drain tank pump seals were replaced and check valves were installed in the primary coolant sampling lines.
No other major safety-related maintenance was performed
. during the period.
