. POWER AUTHORITY OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK JAMES A. FITZPATRICK NUCLEAR POWER PLANT DOCKET NO. 50-333 ATTACHMENT TO LER 79-Ill/03L-0 PAGE 1 of 1 During normal operations, during the conduct of Instrument Surveillance Procedure F-ISP-9 titled " Steam Line High Flow - HPCI RCIC", one of the four high flow instruments was found to have dri f ted in the non-conservative direction. This dri f t placed the instrument trip at 239" of water compared to a Technical Specification value of equal to or less than 230" of water. The other three instruments were found within the Technical Specification limits therefore the event did not represent any signi ficant hazard to the public health and safety.

The testing was being conducced in an attempt to determine the source of a spurious isolation signal which was reported on LER 79-110 and recalibration of the instrument returned it to operable status within the Technical Specification limits of Appendix A, Table 3.-2. Regular scheduled surveillance of the same instrument approximately one week later did not show any evidence of additional drif t or abnormal performance and no further action is considered necessary.
