During normal operation while conducting Operatior.s Surveillance Test F-ST-9B titled "EDG Full Load Test (ISI)" to satisfy the requirements of Technical Specifications Appendix A, Paragraph 4.9.B.1, Emergency Diesel Generator "C" tripped on overspeed during the engine start sequence.

The redundant Emergency Diesel Generators and off-site power systems were veri fied operable as required by Technical Specifications Appendix A, Paragraph 4.9.B.5 and 6.

Therefore, the event did not represent any signi ficant hazard to the public health and safety.

Investigation revealed that the overspeed limi t swi tch had a loose connection which resulted in the initiation of the overspeed trip due to normal engine vibration. No actual overspeed condition existed.

Repai r of the loose connection was completed and an overspeed test was conducted to verify proper operation and setting of the overspeed protection devices.

Following this work, Emergency Diesel Generator "C" was verified operable by satisfactory completion of F ST-9B and the of f-si te and on-si te AC power systems were restored to the normal stand-by line up on the followiog day.
