NAME OF PREPAPER PHONE:

POWER AUTHORITY OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK JAMES A. FITZPATRICK NUCLEAR POWER PLANT DOCKET NO. 50-333 ATTACHMENT TO LET 79-086/01T-0 Page 1 of 1 The Architect-Engineer notified the Plant Staff that as the result of the Pipe Stress Reanalysis, six supports were inoperable when considered against the criteria of the 14 August 1979 letter lifting the Show Cause Order of 13 March 1979.

One of these supports, H66-62, on the Standby Gas Treatment System, because of its presence, caused system overstress. This support has been removed. The Standby Gas Treatment is now considered fully operable. The other five supports listed below are on the common return line from services components to the lake.

Since the cooling water has served its function prior to reaching the affected piping, the RHR Service Water, Service Water, and Emergency Service Water Systems are considered operable. Based upon preliminary load information, H46-1, H46-2, and H46-3 were upgraded, and are now fully acceptable.

Based upon preliminary loads, H46-267A (new) has been installed which relieves the stresses on H46-267A.

H46-267A is now fully acceptable.

Based upon preliminary load information, new support H10-175-new was installed and H10-175-existing upgraded.

This support system is now fully acceptable. A new support H10-177-new was installed to relieve the loading on H10-177-existing. With this new support installed, H10-177-existing is operable but will require further modification to be permanently acceptable. This further modification to H10-177-existing will be performed in conjunction with the continuing effort to correct the remaining program deficiencies.

All six (6) pipe supports were upgraded within the seven day time frame required by the August 14, 1979 letter and the event did not represent a significant hazard to the public health and safety.

When modifications are complete, a follow up report will be submitted.
