J. Shea UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 September 14, 2015 Mr. Joseph W. Shea Vice President, Nuclear Licensing Tennessee Valley Authority P.O. Box 2000 Soddy-Daisy, TN 37384

SUBJECT:

SUPPLEMENTAL SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT RELATED TO THE SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NOS. MF0481 AND MF0482)

Dear Mr. Shea:

By letter dated January 7, 2013, Tennessee Valley Authority submitted an application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 54 Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants, to renew the operating license DPR-77 and DPR-79 for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 (SQN), for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff. The staff determined that the license renewal application (LRA) was complete and acceptable for docketing on February 26, 2013.

Since that time, the staff has reviewed the SQN LRA, performed site audits and inspections, issued requests for additional information (RAIs), reviewed the applicants responses to the staffs RAIs, developed a safety evaluation report (SER) with open items, which is available through the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)

Accession No. ML14266A033 dated September 29, 2014, met with the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) Subcommittee on November 5, 2014, issued the Final SER dated July 29, 2015, and published the Final SER as NUREG-2181, Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Sequoyah Generating Station, Units 1 and 2, in July 2015, ADAMS Accession No. ML15187A206. The staff has closed all open items, and has developed the enclosed Supplemental SER ADAMS Accession No. (ML15238B502) to document the findings associated with the safety review of supplemental information provided by the applicant since the issuance of the SER in July 2015.

J. Shea This Supplemental SER is scheduled to be submitted to the ACRS Committee and published as a supplement to NUREG-2181 in September 2015. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact the license renewal project manager, Mr. Emmanuel Sayoc, by telephone at 301-415-4084 or by e-mail at emmanuel.sayoc@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Christopher G. Miller, Director Division of License Renewal Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Docket Nos. 50-327 and 50-328
