SUBJECT:
SCHEDULE REVISION FOR THE REVIEW OF THE SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT LICENSE. RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAG NOS. MF0481 AND MF0482)
Dear Mr. Carlin.
By letter dated January 7, 2013, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) submitted an application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 51 and 10 CFR Part 54, to renew Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SON) operating licenses DPR-77 and DPR-79, for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). This letter is to inform you of a change in the schedule for the SON license renewal review.
The safety review milestone due dates for: "Issue safety evaluation report (SER) with open items" and "Issue final SER" are being revised from "To Be Determined (TBD)" to January 2015, and May 2015, respectively. The issuance of a revised schedule is based on your updated request for additional information (RAI) response to the staff's RAI 8.1.34-9, dated March 3, 2014, concerning reactor vessel internals program action item 1. After receiving the final RAI response in October, 2014. the staff will review and incorporate the response in the safety review, and new ACRS dates will be determined. In the event that TVA can provide technical details to the staff for review at an earlier date (i.e., susceptibility of reactor vessel internal components with 20 percent cold work or greater) the staff will consider revising the schedule to earlier dates Enclosed is the NRC staffs revised review schedule for the SON license renewal application.
