Docket No. 50-206 Anticipated Transients Without Scram San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By letter dated September 22, 1986 the NRC provided SCE with a copy of the safety evaluation for the AMSAC Generic Design Package, WCAP-10858.
The letter requested that SCE provide a schedule for submitting plant specific design features as discussed in the safety evaluation and the schedule for implementation of an ATWS mitigation system following NRC approval.
As indicated in SCE's October 15, 1985 letter to the NRC, an independent and diverse system for automatic initiation of auxiliary feedwater exists at San Onofre Unit 1. A method for initiating turbine trip is required to complete the ATWS mitigation system requirements. SCE currently plans to transmit by March 16, 1987, a description of the plant specific design features of the ATWS mitigation system at San Onofre Unit 1. The schedule for implementation of the turbine trip portion of the ATWS mitigation system is currently the Cycle X refueling outage. This schedule was determined by the Integrated Living.Schedule process as indicated in SCE's October 15, 1985 letter. This implementation schedule is dependent on NRC review and approval prior to the Cycle X refueling outage.
