Dear Mr. Heflin:
By letter dated December 15,2011, Union Electric Company, a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation and doing business as Ameren Missouri, submitted an application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54, to renew the operating license NPF-30 for Callaway Plant, Unit 1, for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff). The staff is reviewing the information contained in the license renewal application and has identified, in the enclosure, areas where additional information is needed to complete the review.
These requests for additional information were discussed with Ms. Sarah Kovaleski, and a mutually agreeable date for the response is within 30 days from the date of this letter. REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE CALLAWAY PLANT, UNIT 1 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION, SET 2 Hydrology and Water Quality - Surface Water
- 1. Provide documentation from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources confirming that a separate Clean Water Act Section 401 certification will not be required for the purposes of license renewal in the form of a State regulation, policy statement, or written statement from the State.
Terrestrial Ecology
- 1. Provide a discussion of future plans to extend the Reform Conservation Area lease agreement after expiration in 2016.
- 2. Provide a copy of any studies completed to document threatened and endangered species in the transmission line corridors.
- 3. Provide the basis for or source of the following sentence on page 2-19 of the environmental report (ER): "... a gray bat was documented in a cave nearby in an off-site segment of Auxvasse Creek."
- 4. Provide the basis for or source of the sentence on page 2-21 of the ER that explains that the eastern hellbender has not been observed on the site.
- 5. According to Section 2.5 of the ER, Ameren contractors examined historical records and consulted resource agencies to determine the potential occurrence of threatened and endangered species. Please list or describe what historical records Ameren contractors reviewed. Please list or describe which resource agencies Ameren contractors contacted and provide any available documentation, such as phone call summaries, that is not already included in Appendix C of the ER.
