UPDATE - CURRENT NRC ACTIONS AND STATUS OF PILGRIM NUCLEAR POWER STATION UNION CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS
On May 17, 2012, Entergy and members of the United Workers Union of America (UWUA) Local 369 agreed to a contract extension until May 25, 2012. UWUA Local 369 includes members of the Maintenance, Radiation Protection, Chemistry and Operations organizations. The union contract expired at midnight on May 15, 2012.
The NRC provided 24-hour onsite coverage since the expiration of the contract. Additionally, the NRC will continue to inspect Entergy's strike contingency plans per established inspection procedures (Inspection Procedure 92709, "Licensee Strike Contingency Plans"). NRC enhanced oversight of 24-hour onsite coverage will resume on May 25, 2012 should an extension or new contract agreement not be reached to ensure the plant continues to be operated in a safe manner.
The information presented herein has been discussed with Entergy and is current as of May 17, 2012, at 8:00 a.m. The NRC has kept the Commonwealth of Massachusetts informed. Region I Public Affairs is prepared to respond to media inquiries.
