SUBJECT:

DOW CHEMICAL COMPANY TRIGA RESEARCH REACTOR - RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION DATED FEBRUARY 11, 2011 (TAC NO. ME1595)

Dear Dr. Krahenbuhl:

The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received your letter dated February 11, 2011, (Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML110460284) requesting an extension to May 12, 2011, to provide your response to our request for additional information (RAI) (NRC letter dated November 2, 2010, ADAMS Accession No. ML102700307). Specifically, your request applied to eighteen RAIs which you indicated will require additional time and resources. We have reviewed and agree with your request for the following reasons: 1) it is your first request; 2) the RAIs are complex and require detailed analysis; and 3) more notably, Dow Chemical has demonstrated progress in completing the RAI responses and maintained good communication with the license renewal project manager regarding the status of your RAI response.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), Section 50.30(b), you must execute your response in a signed original document under oath or affirmation. Your response must be submitted in accordance with 10 CFR 50.4, Written Communications.

Information included in your response that is considered security sensitive, or proprietary, that you seek to have withheld from the public, must be marked in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390, Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding.

If you have any questions, please contact Walter Meyer at 301-415-0897 or by electronic mail at walter.meyer@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/LTran for RA/
