DUANE ARNOLD ENERGY CENTER LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION REVIEW (TAC NO. MD9770)
Dear Mr. Nulty:
During the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) review of the license renewal application by FPL Energy Duane Arnold, LLC, for Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC), the NRC found 12 historic and archaeological sites within the transmission lines. These transmission lines are associated with DAEC and are owned by ITC Midwest, LLC (ITC). These sites were identified during an archaeological records search at the offices of the Iowa Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and the Office of the State Archaeologist (OSA). The purpose of this letter is to inform ITC of these archaeological sites so ITC can take the appropriate measures to consider these sites. In addition to the items listed in the table below, there is also the potential for prehistoric mounds to be in or near ITC transmission line rights-of-way. For more details about these sites, please contact SHPO and OSA. The following is a table of the sites found in the transmission line rights-of-way.
