SUMMARY

OF SEPTEMBER 8, 2008, MEETING TO DISCUSS AUGUST 20, 2008, REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION PERTAINING THE DIGITAL UPGRADE TO THE OCONEE REACTOR PROTECTIVE SYSTEM AND ENGINEERED SAFEGUARDS PROTECTIVE SYSTEM (TAC NOS. MD7999, MD8000, AND MD8001)

On September 8, 2008, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) met with Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (the licensee), to discuss the August 20, 2008, request for additional information (RAI) pertaining to the January 31, 2008, license amendment request (LAR) for a digital upgrade to the Oconee reactor protective system and engineered safeguards protective system (RPS/ESPS). The August 20, 2008, RAI is available in the Agencywide Document and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML083231598, and the January 31, 2008, LAR is available under ADAMS Accession No. ML080730339. Enclosed is a list of the attendees.

The licensee discussed how they intend to respond to a number of the 84 questions in the RAI.

Most of the discussion during the meeting involved proprietary material. The licensee stated that they will be providing their response to the RAI by September 30, 2008.
