Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (Duke) met with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) on March 18, 2008, to discuss the License Amendment Request (LAR) submitted on January 31, 2008, associated with the Reactor Protective System and Engineered Safeguards Protective System digital upgrade. During this meeting, the NRC identified five issues in which they need further information to resolve. NRC requested Duke to provide a schedule for submitting this information by April 1, 2008. Subsequently, Duke requested and the NRC agreed that the submittal date could be extended to April 4, 2008.

Duke will submit the information requested by no later than May 29, 2008. Duke plans to provide information on each issue on the following schedule:

1) ISG 4 compliance matrix April 30, 2008
2) TXS application software development plan April 30, 2008
3) Additional information justifying TXS system hardware, May 15, 2008 software and development procedure changes
4) Additional information to justify proposed alternative to the May 29, 2008 requirements of IEEE 1012
5) Additional information on SlvAT Testing May 29, 2008 Additional Duke/NRC interactions are needed prior to providing these responses to make sure the issues are well understood and that the additional information provided satisfies NRC www. duke-energy. com

U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission April 3, 2008 Page 2 needs. Duke plans to further discuss these issues during weekly Duke/NRC teleconferences and a technical meeting tentatively scheduled for April 29, 2008.
