The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Massachusetts Historical Commission August 18, 2003 Mr. Gregg A. Demers Environmental Resources Management 399 Boylston Street, 6h Floor Boston, MA 02116 RE: Yankee Nuclear Power Station Decommissioning, Rowe; MHC#33426

Dear Mr. Demers:

Staff at the Massachusetts Historical Commission have reviewed the information you submitted concerning the proposed project referenced above. The Yankee Nuclear Power Station is neither listed in the State or National Register of Historic Places nor is it included in MHC's Inventory of HistoricandArchaeological Assets of the Commonwealth.

The MHC understands that the proposed project involves the decommissioning of the Yankee Nuclear Power Station. The existing structures on site, with the exception of the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation and supporting ancillary facilities, will be demolished. The debris will be disposed at an off-site location and the site will be regarded and seeded.

After review of MHC files and the materials submitted, MHC staff have determined that the proposed projects are unlikely to affect significant historic or archaeological resources. No further review by this office is required.

These comments are offered to assist in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended (36 CFR 800) and M. G. L. Chapter 9, Section 26-27C, as amended by Chapter 254 of the Acts of 1988 (950 CMR 71.00). Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.

Sincerely, jýelbra .Lavoie Preservation Planner Massachusetts Historical Commission 220 Morrissey Boulevard, Boston, Massachusetts 02125 (617) 727-8470 - Fax: (617) 727-5128 www.state.ma.us/sec/mhc
