SUMMARY

OF NOVEMBER 14, 2006, MEETING WITH SOUTHERN NUCLEAR OPERATING COMPANY, INC., ON ALTERNATIVE SOURCE TERM SUBMITTAL (TAC NOS. MD2934 AND MD2935)

On November 14, 2006, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc. (SNC), at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was for SNC to present an overview of the August 29, 2006, alternative source term (AST) submittal for the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 (Hatch). A list of attendees is provided as Enclosure 1. Members of the public were not in attendance.

The licensees slides are included in Enclosure 2 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML063280065). Key aspects of the licensees presentation included its radiological dose consequence methodology based on an AST, the crediting of the turbine building heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, and the provision of adequate electrical power and seismic considerations for the turbine building HVAC systems. The licensee noted that slide number four summarizes the assumptions made for each of the four design-basis accident analyses.

The NRC staff found the information provided in the licensees presentation slides to be useful in understanding the licensees submittal of August 29, 2006. The NRC staff plans to continue with its review, including the development of requests for additional information.

Sincerely,

/RA/
