Request Phone Call: NMP2 Proposed Amendment Re. UHS Temperature (TAC MC0594)
John:
We are reviewing your 8/22/03 application for amendment regarding ultimate heat sink temperature limit. Our reviewer, David Cullison, has developed a number of questions which follow:
- 1. Emergency Diesel Generators, Division I, II, and III. At worst-case current licensing basis conditions with a 84 degrees F UHS, what temperatures are expected and what are the associated limits?
- 2. What is the peak suppression pool temperature following a main steam line isolation transient from 100% power coincident with a loss of offsite power assuming a UHS temperature of 84 degrees F? Describe how the RHR heat exchanger tube plugging limit described in the submittal is administratively controlled.
- 3. It is not clear to the NRC staff that analyses at the proposed UHS temperature of 84 degrees F were performed for the following systems and parameters. It appears that in most cases, a conclusion of acceptability was based on margin at the current UHS temperature.
Please verify that analyses were done at the proposed higher UHS temperature and that the conclusions in the submittal remain valid at the higher UHS temperature for:
A. EDG Building Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
B. Control Building Safety-related Area Coolers.
C. The maximum post-LOCA peak suppression pool temperature.
D. Reactor Building Supply Air Cooler.
E. Reactor Core Isolation Room Unit Coolers F. Turbine Building Closed Loop Cooling System.
We would like to discuss these questions with you in a conference call.
This e-mail aims solely to prepare you and others for the proposed conference call. It does not formally state an NRC staff position, nor does it formally request for additional information.
