UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA RESEARCH REACTOR - TERMINATION OF REACTOR OPERATOR REQUALIFICATION PROGRAM (TAC NO. MB4274)
Dear Dr. Mulder:
This is in response to your letter of February 22, 2002, requesting termination of the University of Virginia Reactor and CAVALIER Research Reactor Operator Requalification Program. The requalification program was approved by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in accordance with 10 CFR 55.59.
Both reactors have been permanently shut down in preparation for decommissioning. All reactor fuel has been shipped off-site and there are no activities planned which will require licensed operators. All operator licenses for the reactors have been terminated.
Based on the permanent shut down status of the reactors, the removal of all reactor fuel from the site, and the termination of all reactor operator licenses, the staff has concluded that a reactor operator requalification program is no longer required for the University of Virginia Reactor and CAVALIER Research Reactor.
