U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Director, Spent Fuel Project Office Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards Washington, DC 20555-0001 Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant Docket No. 50-263 Renewed Facility Operating License No. DPR-22 Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation Docket Number 72-0058 Interim Notification for Dry Shielded Canister MNP-61 BTH-1-B-2-016 Pursuant to 10 CFR 72.212, Conditions of General License Issued Under 10 CFR 72.210, for the Storage of Spent Fuel In accordance with the guidance of 10 CFR 72.212, Northern States Power Company-Minnesota (NSPM), doing business as Xcel Energy, is providing notice of the use of a U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved spent fuel storage cask.
10 CFR 72.212(b)(2) requires that the user "register use of each cask with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission no later than 30 days after using that cask to store spent fuel."
A loaded model NUHOMS-61 BTH Dry Shielded Canister<1> is currently staged on the refueling floor pending resolution of a nonconforming condition. NSPM is registering this Dry Shielded Canister, serial number MNP-61 BTH-1-B-2-016, in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 72.212(b)(2). Once this Dry Shielded Canister has been placed into storage within a Horizontal Storage Module, NSPM will provide the required storage location registration information in accordance with 10 CFR 72.212(b)(2).
Summary of Commitments In accordance with 10 CFR 72.212(b)(2), NSPM will provide the storage registration information for Dry Shielded Canister, serial number MNP-61 BTH-1-B-2-016, following placement of the canister into storage within a Horizontal Storage Module.
