50-455/90020(DR55))

Areas Inspected: Routine, unannounced physical security inspection involving Audits; Protected and Vital Area Physical Barriers, Detection and Assessment Aids; Alarm Stations and Conmunications; Maintenance; and previous inspection findings.

Results:

No violations were identified during the inspection. ' Five previously identified open items pertaining to the security force perimeter intrusion deletion system, access control equipment, and the

t Safeguards event log are considered closed.

Increased management attention, since the previous security inspection, was evident by improved security staff communications and supervisory skills.

Management support for the program was demonstrated by the procurement and on-going installation of an upgraded alarm assessment system, and the procurement of a new perimeter intrusion detection system still to be installed.

Security interface with the various maintenance support groups is considered excellent.

Strengths observed in the licensee's security program included. the following.

l Design and implementation of a " Video Capture System" which provides alarm station operators with an instant and permanent record of who

.

or what tripped a sensor.

The development and use of the " Byron Monthly Trending Report" which is considered an excellent management tool in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the Byron Security Program.
