Anderson, Chief, Plant Systems Section, Engineering Programs Branch, Division of Engineer and Technical Programs SUBJECT: NINE MILE P0 INT, UNIT 2/ ALLEGATIONS CONCERNING DEFICIEN-CIES IN THE EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATOR SYSTEM, RADIATION CONTAINMENT SYSTEM AND OUALIFICATIONS OF CONTRACTS PERSONNEL Reference: Allegation Report Number 0-1-83-012 Inspection Report Number 50-410/83-06 On April 22, 1983, NRC Region I received an anonymous call from a fonner employee of Stone &. Webste The caller identified several potential safety related matters at the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, Unit 2 (NMP-2). Sub-sequently, the alleger was interviewed by Region I technical personnel and a Region I OI investigator on April 23, 1983 and April 27, 1983 respectivel Five allegations were reported by the alleger. Four of these allegations related to Nine Mile Point 2. The fifth allegation related to the River Bend plant in Region IV. The allegations are identified in 01 Report 0-1-83-01 They relate to design deficiencies in the NMP-2 diesel generator, the withhold-ing of related information from the NRC, unqualified Stone &. Webster personnel, doctoring of records to conceal an NMP-2 containment system deficiency and a related deficiency at River Bend. The Region I staff conducted an inspection (Report No. 50-410/83-06) at NMP-2 and at the Stone & Webster Enginering offices in Cherry Hill. The staff could not substantiate any of the NMP-2 allegations.- The fifth allegation relating to River Bend was referred to Region IV personnel for their investigation The Plant Systems Section plans no further action and consider this case to be
