SUBJECT:

FERMI POWER PLANT, UNIT 2TRIENNIAL FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTION REPORT 05000341/2017407

Dear Mr. Polson:

On September 14, 2017, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) completed a Triennial Fire Protection Inspection at your Fermi Power Plant, Unit 2 (Fermi 2). The enclosed inspection report documents the inspection results, which were discussed on September 25, 2017, with Mr. K. Polson, and other members of your staff.

The inspection examined activities conducted under your license as they relate to your preparedness to handle large fires or explosions by verifying you continue to meet the requirements of your B.5.b license condition and Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part 50.54 (hh)(2). The inspectors reviewed selected procedures and records, observed activities, and interviewed personnel.

The NRC inspectors documented one finding of very-low safety significance in this report. The finding involved a violation of NRC requirements. However, because of its very-low safety significance, and because the issue was entered into your Corrective Action Program, the NRC is treating the issue as a Non-Cited Violation in accordance with Section 2.3.2 of the NRC Enforcement Policy.

If you contest the violation or significance of the Non-Cited Violation, you should provide a response within 30 days of the date of this inspection report, with the basis for your denial, to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, ATTN: Document Control Desk, Washington, DC 20555 0001; with copies to the Regional Administrator, Region III; the Director, Office of Enforcement; and the NRC resident inspector at the Fermi 2 Power Plant.

Enclosure contains Sensitive Unclassified Non-Safeguards Information. When separated from enclosure, this transmittal document is decontrolled. This letter will be made available for public inspection and copying at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html and at the NRC Public Document Room in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390, Public Inspections, Exemptions, Requests for Withholding.

However, the enclosed report contains Security-Related Information, so the enclosed report will not be made publically available in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390(d)(1). If you choose to provide a response that contains Security-Related Information, please mark your entire response Security-Related Information-Withhold from public disclosure under 10 CFR 2.390 in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390(d)(1) and follow the instructions for withholding in 10 CFR 2.390(b)(1). The NRC is waiving the affidavit requirements for your response in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390(b)(1)(ii).

Sincerely,

/RA/
