CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT _ NRC SUPPLEMENTAL tNSpECTtON REPORT 0500031 7 12011406 AND 0500031 81201 1406

Dear Mr. Gellrich:

On December 15, 2011, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) completed a supplemental inspection at your Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2. The enclosed inspection report documents the inspection results, which were discussed on December 15,2011, with you and other members of your staff.

ln accordance with the NRC Reactor Oversight Process Action Matrix, this supplemental inspection was performed to follow-up on a performance issue which occurred in the third quarter of 2011. This issue was previously documented and assessed in NRC Special lnspection Report 0500031712011403 and 0500031812011403 and Final Significance Determination Report 0500031712011405 and 0500031812011405. The NRC was informed on November 11,2011, of your staff's readiness for this inspection.

The objectives of this supplemental inspection were to provide assurance that: (1) the root causes and the contributing causes for the significant issues were understood; (2) the extent of condition and extent of cause of the issues were identified; and (3) corrective actions were or will be sufficient to address and preclude repetition of the root and contributing causes.

No findings were identified during this inspection.

ln accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room).

Enclosure contains Sensitive Unclassified Non-Safeguards Information. When separated from enclosure, this transmittal document is decontrolled.
